FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions regarding ‘virtual assistance’ and how I help my clients.

What is a Virtual Assistant?

Virtual Assistants, or VAs, provide administrative, operational and personal support while working in long-term collaborative relationships with a handful of clients.
Using phone, email, and other technologies, VAs support their clients’ needs, across the board, without having to ever step foot inside the clients’ offices.
Saying this, I am more than happy to spend time in your office if the need is there – whether to have meetings or to provide some in-house support for a few hours.

What are the benefits of a working with a VA?

Working with me will:

  • Save you time – I will take on the tasks that stop you from doing what you do best
  • Provide you professional and reliable administration and business development support

Benefits of working with a VA rather than an employee:

  • No need for additional office space or equipment, reducing business costs
  • You don’t pay holiday or sick pay
  • You don’t pay tax or NI
  • I am responsible for my own development and training and am very proactive with it too

What can you support me with?

The list is vast! I am proactive, capable, learn fast and am good at using my initiative. I can assist with one-off projects, or provide ongoing, long-term support.

Generally speaking, I can support you with the typical office support (day-to-day tasks) such as:

  • Email
  • Making appointments, keeping your schedule
  • Personal/business paperwork
  • Research
  • Planning meetings and events
  • Making travel arrangements – business and personal including:
    • Renewing passports
    • Dining reservations (local and while travelling)

I can also provide support for the projects that will move your business forward (this is the stuff I really enjoy), such as:

  • Managing your social media & marketing – monitoring your online (and offline) reputation and helping you improve it
  • Updating your website (WordPress support – although if you use a different platform, I’m a fast learner!)
  • Helping you to plan and then execute a product launch
  • Systematising your processes
  • Providing a weekly update on all the news you need to know, but don’t have time to seek out and read yourself
  • Attending networking events/seminars on your behalf

For a list of popular services please see here.

Please note I am not an Accountant, Bookkeeper, Graphic Designer, Sales Representative or Telemarketer. I can offer a multitude of support but you should always seek out a professional to help you in specialist areas. I will always be honest with you if the support you require is not within my remit.

How is your experience relevant?

I have been working as a PA since 2013 and started providing business-support as a Virtual Assistant in May 2016. Whilst you may find a VA with more years experience, the knowledge I have accumulated in a short period of time is vast.

You can see further information on my LinkedIn profile but to summarise;

  • I have worked in the sectors of Marketing, Recruitment, Sales, Customer Service, Hospitality & Events.
  • I have supported Business Coaches, Recruitment Suppliers, Land Developers, Insurance Providers, Graphic Designers and others.
  • Due to my work ethic and commitment I was awarded ‘Administrator of the Year’ two years running and ‘Excellence in Administration’, all within my first two years as a PA. This was out of hundreds of other Administrators and support staff within the global organisation I worked in.
  • I relocated and helped set up a new office in London and successfully recruited 30 self-employed contractors within 3 months.
  • I am hard-working and care deeply about my work and the businesses I work with.
  • Unlike other VAs I prefer to build a lasting relationship with the clients I work with and to support their businesses longterm.

What software do you use?

Where there’s a will, there’s a way – technology has provided us with so many systems to help with the daily tasks.

I personally use;

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PP etc)
  • Google Drive – for document access & sharing important files
  • Google Sheets & Docs – for creating online documents we both need access to, for both information & editing purposes
  • Google Calendar – you are welcome to have access to view my calendar so you can see my availability
  • Canva – I’m no Graphic Designer but I do have a good eye for detail and Canva is a brilliant tool for the basics
  • Toggl – to track my time

How much does it cost?

I am also in business for myself as a self-employed contractor; I set my fees to honour the work I do and the value I bring to your business.

I ask you to share with me your ideas and the vision for your success and we will set a fee that is fair to both of us. I will not charge you for travel but may take into account any travel expenses I may incur, as well as the time per week I am dedicating to you, rather than taking on additional clients to support my business.

Generally speaking, you can expect to pay between £23-£30 per hour. Keep in mind that Virtual Assistance wasn’t developed to be the inexpensive alternative to hiring employees, but the convenient one. Also, remember that the time you pay for is 100% productive time – the hours we agree are the hours I will support you for. If you cannot trust me to do the work without being in your presence, finding a full-time employee may be a better route for you.

I am diligent, trustworthy and provide the best possible support I can.

What am I paying for?

You are paying for my dedicated time.

You are buying a certain number of hours, wholly dedicated to you every week/month. This may be on an ad-hoc basis or on a retainer that we have previously agreed.

It is up to you to direct enough work to me to use the hours – don’t worry, we will decide this in advance by having weekly catch-ups.

Generally, unused hours aren’t refundable – I expect us to work together to ensure you are supported fully in the time we have together.

You are also paying for:

  • Everything I’ve learnt from the of hours of work I have provided businesses
  • Every bit of distilled knowledge from extra courses/training I’ve taken
  • The content of every book, TEDTalk and blog post I’ve digested – I take professional and personal development seriously!
  • My experience in real-life work situations, both as an employee and a business owner
  • My high standards and work-ethic, which probably rival yours
  • My practical knowledge from working with a variety of clients and businesses

Shared interest equals a strategic partnership. When working with me, I ask that you bring me into your business. Indoctrinate me in your culture, and allow me the opportunity to share my ideas. Collaboration is a powerful tool that will take your business to the next level.

Where are you based?

I live in Bournemouth, Dorset and I love being here.

I am happy to travel within 30 miles of my home-office to support the businesses I work with, however, the beauty of technology is that we can Skype, email, talk over the phone and communicate through Trello, Slack etc… I’m never too far away and if I miss your call I will call you back as soon as I’m available.
